Barriers to Reform - Public Reaction

This page deals with public attitudes to the failings of government and the need for democratic reform.

People are quite prepared to complain about concrete issues, such as closure of post offices, inappropriate development, loss of hospital facilities, excessive bureaucracy, impossibility of schools sourcing food locally etc. etc.

Increasingly people are pessimistic about government's ability to sort out problems, and are preparing to look after themselves. The Transition Towns movement is an example of this. What they don't realise is the extent to which central government will frustrate their efforts, partly because they simply can't let go and let things be decided locally, and partly because the UK is tied into trade agreements that oppress us.
