A New Kind of Party - Candidates' Obligations Candidates would be adopted by the new party or parties supporting its aims on the understanding that they would not accept any government post if offered. If they failed to honour that pledge they would of course be expelled from the party, but that would hardly worry them. It would be highly desirable if they could be made to sign a contract whereby any emoluments from any government post would be payable to the party.
